Pedal Podium

Creative collaborations are such fun... the Pedal Podium is the brainchild of a pianist and biomedical engineer!

When I made the switch to using a tablet and Bluetooth page-turning pedal to perform, there were so many positive advantages: no more suitcases filled with scores, endless notation possibilities, and (for better or worse) the end of hair-raising page-turning adventures. Though I still miss the tactile and visual qualities offered by a paper score, using the tablet/Bluetooth pedal combination offers significant advantages under most circumstances.

However, I found the difference in height between the piano pedals to be both distracting and disconcerting. I wondered whether there was some way to raise the Bluetooth pedal to the same height as the piano pedals, and decided to brainstorm possible solutions with my engineer friend, Loren Francis. 

​

The result: the Pedal Podium, a 3D printed podium that raises the Bluetooth pedal to the same height as the piano pedals, offering a seamless shift from one to the other, allowing for much more intuitive proprioception. No more flailing or stomping to turn your pages! The podium clicks on to the pedal and is lightweight and stable. It has been a game changer, and I can't wait to share it with you! Check out the video:
